What the price includes
- Delivery to your US address. Shipping is free on 10 kg or more. Orders of 5 to 9 kg add a flat $150.
- Duties and customs fees. Always included. You don't pay anything on arrival.
- Fresh milling. Your order is milled in Japan after you place it and is ready to ship in 7 to 14 days.
- Mixed grades. The minimum order is 5 kg, split across any grades in 1 kg or 500 g bags.
Orders are prepaid. Many wholesale quotes from Japan are priced before freight, duty, and customs fees, so ask what is added on top before you compare two per-kg numbers.

How to work out your cost per drink
Divide the price per kilogram by 1,000 to get the cost per gram, then multiply by the grams in your recipe. Ceremonial Barista at $199 per kg costs about $0.20 per gram, so a 2 g latte uses about $0.40 of matcha and a 3 g latte about $0.60.
Matcha is usually a small share of a drink's cost next to milk, cup, and labor. Moving up one grade often adds only a few cents per drink, which is why it's worth tasting two grades side by side in your own recipe. See matcha for cafes for choosing a grade by menu.
Why grade changes the price most
Matcha made from the youngest first-harvest leaves, shade-grown and stone-milled, costs more than matcha from later harvests. "Ceremonial" is not a regulated term, so two quotes with the same label can describe different tea. Ask each supplier for the harvest, the origin, and the milling method, then compare the price.
Harvest timing and year-to-year supply
Matcha is an agricultural product. Early first-harvest (ichibancha) leaves are more limited than later harvests, and total supply shifts from year to year with weather and demand. Wholesale prices move with it, which is why a quote from last year may not hold today.
Packaging and private label
Bulk bags cost less than retail-ready units. Custom or private-label packaging adds its own cost on top of the matcha, so compare a bulk quote and a private-label quote separately.
Shipping and freshness
Matcha fades with heat, light, and air. A lower price per kg on matcha that was milled months ago, or shipped slowly without protection, can cost more in color and flavor than it saves. Order what you will use in a few months and store it sealed and cool.
